The premises are now occupied by Nicole’s Dance & Art School.
This web page from the Texas Historical Association has a brief biography of Sam Schwartz, who opened the Aztec Theatre in 1915 and whose family operated the house until its closing in 1982. The architect and contractor for the Aztec was Leonard F. Seed.
I lived in this theater. My father was the film projectionist for 22 years. I remember Sam and Arnold smoking cigars in their office.
We used to get in for free. I saw just about every movie from 1970 to 1980. It started with a cartoon, then the previews of coming attractions and then the movie.
I worked the projectors for about two weeks. I can still remember the dots on the right hand corner of the film. I remember splicing the coming attractions together.
Reviewing the film, installing the next reel. The carbon rods, then the arc.
saw alot, learned alot.
Miss you Dad
