The Rex Theater opened in 1926 with seating for 662 and was part of the Barton Theater chain. The theater lasted until 1952 when it closed and later became a church. The church has since closed and the building has been demolished.

I lived in the near northwest side from 1947 to 1952 and have many wonderful childhod memories of going to any saturday matinee,as well as going in the evenin with the whole family before we were able to afford a TV set. We lived on Eugene St which was a short walk away. I will always cherish those wonderful times in my life
