The Scala Cinema, Pontypool, South Wales was housed in a building that dates back to 1916, and was a former Church Institute Meeting Hall.
The hall was converted to a cinema in 1976 originally with 197 seats on a single floor level.
The opening film was "The Three Musketeers", projection was by B.T.H Machines and an R.C.A Sound System which has remained until the present day.
Although the original seating was reduced to 130 and the screen size was 18'6", the small well maintained cinema always remained a popular venue in the small valley town, and although a single screen still ran films on current release.
The Scala Cinema was closed around 2005, and the children’s playgroup which occupied another part of the building took over the cinema space.

this cinema closed some time ago and the building is now used as a childrens playgroup.
I went there to see a film a few years ago. the interior was well maintained. the cinema was operated by one man who sold you your ticket served you your drink , sweets etc and also operated the projector.
the projection room was tiny and housed a large ancient looking projector.
the auditorium was small but comfortable and had modern seating.
