The Mars Theater was located in Mars, Pennsylvania from its opening on January 2, 1950, to 1960. Its patrons were mostly farmers and town workers. It was structually unique because of a specially built, tubular-steel truss ‘wet’ roof.
Seating in the plainly decorated auditorium was on a single floor, and on the second floor on each side of the projection booth were a crying room and a television room.
Due to the increase in television viewers, it closed down after a short run. It was converted into an office building shortly after it closed. Not only was it the largest theater in Butler County, it was perhaps the most elegant. It had an ivory ceiling with flowing red drapes and a satin curtain.

What a great little gem of a discovery.
I rremember seeing the front of the Mars theatre when I was quite young. If memory serves, the plain exterior did not hint of the plush interior. A few of these jewels still remain open around the country; but, their numbers are dwindling rapidly.
