The Regent Theatre in downtown Arlington was opened April 24, 1916. It is currently used for mostly live performances and some film presentations as well.
The Regent Theatre was used primarily as a venue for family and children’s films in the mid-1990’s.

Since the Fall of 2001, the Regent has been under new management. The Bombay Cinema (the nickname of the Indian Film program) has moved to a location in Boston. There is a thriving mix of live performances and classic films now showing here.

The theater is mostly used for live shows now, but occasionally movies are still shown. Sing-a-Long Sound of Music played here several times, and Sing-a-Long Wizard of Oz is coming next month.
I despise this whole sing-a-long thing.

The Regent is listed under Arlington MA in the 1927 Film Daily Yearbook. It’s listed as having 800 seats and open 7 days per week.
The Theatre Historical Society archive has the MGM Report for the Regent Theatre, made in 1941. The theater was on Medford St., was in Poor condition; had been showing MGM product for over 10 years; and had 735 orchestra seats and 297 balcony seats; total: 1,032 seats. There is an exterior photo taken in May 1941.
The Regent was built in 1916, according to their website.
The Regent celebrated its 100th anniversary yesterday (Sunday, April 24, 2016) by showing the same movie that it opened with in 1916: “Rags” with Mary Pickford. They also presented seven short vaudeville acts before the film.
