Town Hall

Located in Retford, Nottinghamshire. The first floor ballroom at the Victorian era Town Hall has in the past been used as theatre concert hall and cinema. Built in 1868, it is a lavishly decorated room with a flat floor and a small balcony. It operated as the Town Hall Cinema from 1909 until around 1943, when cinema tickets were priced at 6d to 1/3d.

Today it is used as a ballroom and meeting room. The Town Hall is a Grade II Listed building.

The Town Hall opened for films on 14th October 1909, it continued as a full time cinema until other purpose built cinemas opened in the town. From at least 1937 until 1947 it is listed as being used for ‘occasional pictures’.
