Gem Theatre

A conversion of a former courthouse built in 1841 and moved to the State Street & Disbrow Street address in 1899 and it opened as the 420-seat Colonial Opera House. In 1909 it was renamed Colonial Theatre and movies were added to the programing. In 1937 it received an internal Streamline Modern style make-over and it was renamed Gem Theatre. It had another makeover in 1955 when it was equipped with CinemaScope. It was closed in summer of 1960. The building was more than 125 years old when it was demolished in 1968.
