The Lechmere was a short-lived movie theatre on Cambridge Street near the Lechmere area. It apparently operated between the years 1941 and 1957. Any additional information about it will be most welcomed.

The Lechmere Theatre in Cambridge was included in the MGM Theatre Photograph and Report project, but no one filled out the form, so there is no info. There is an undated photo taken from across the street. The theatre occupied a free-standing building 3 stories high, with a center entrance. Above is a small triangle marquee with a ticket booth centered below. There are poster cases along the wall on either side of the entrance, and to the right of the building is what appears to be a fence with the theatre’s name printed in large letters on it.
This address, 585 Cambridge St., doesn’t seem to exist anymore. A Google Street View pointed at this address shows me the small two-story Filharmonica Santo Antionio Cultural Center (575 Cambridge St), next to a large three-story building containing Fucillio/Sasso Insurance (599 Cambridge St).
Whether either of these buildings formerly contained the Lechmere Theatre, I don’t know. Can you tell by comparing the street view with the photo you have?
In the Street View, the building on the right, white with a small green canopy or awning could be the Lechmere Theater, but I’m not sure of that. Where did the street number, 585, come from? There is no street number on the MGM Report. Also Ron, don’t you have a copy of the MGM Report, # 71, for the Lechmere? I mailed it to you, along with some other MGM reports for Cambridge theatres, quite some time ago.
