A state of the art multiplex complex serving as one of two primary cinema complexes serving the Champaign-Urbana region. It was opened on December 19, 1990 as a 10-screen theatre by Goodrich Quality Theaters. Four more screens were added in 1993 and another two screens were added in February 1998. In 2012 one of the screens was converted into additional rest rooms and a party room, and on May 3, 2013 an IMAX auditorium opened. It was closed on March 20, 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The operators Goodrich Quality Theatre were then declared bankrupt and in August 2020. The Goodrich Savoy 16 was purchased by Phoenix Theatres Entertainment and renamed Savoy 16 Theatres + IMAX which reopened in February 2021.

Architects of the Goodrich Savoy 16 were Paradigm Design, but they don’t provide photos of this project on their web site.
I went to several movies here this week and nearly all of them had bright clear images and excellent sound.
Goodrich Quality Theaters closed the location along with all of its other locations after showtimes on March 18, 2020 as a combination of the COVID-19 pandemic and trying to reorganize in bankruptcy declared a month earlier failed.
In late July, New York-based Mason Asset Managment and Namdar Realty Group bought the Goodrich chain and name but decided that the Savoy 16 would not make the cut when it reopened locations leaving the location as closed. The facility remained closed while awaiting a potential new operator.
That new operator became Phoenix Theatres Entertainment Circuit which changed the venue’s name to Savoy 16 Theatres + IMAX. It was the circuit’s 14th location ready for relaunch when the Governor of Illinois allowed cinemas to reopen.
The theater has reopened.

MSC77: Goodrich Savoy 10 held its formal grand opening on December 19 and 20, 1990. Four more screens were added in 1993, and two more opened in February, 1998. A major renovation began in 2012, with one existing auditorium converted for use as additional restrooms and a party room, plus the addition of a new IMAX auditorium that was opened on May 3, 2013.
