Opened as Dominion Theatre in 1909. Famous Players took over in later years and it was renamed Downtown Theatre in 1967. It closed in 1988 and stood vacant for six years until it was taken over by Caprice Showcase Theatres who reopened it on December 26, 1992 as the Caprice Showcase Theatre. It played primarily art-house movies until it was closed again in 1999.
It was subsequently renovated to house a nightclub which retained the Caprice name. The nightclub closed in January 2018 and the building became a bar named Colony in June 2019.

The theater was resurrected as a movie house by an independent chain and renamed Caprice Showcase Theater. It ran movies from 1992 until 1999. It is currently used as a Cabaret.
There are show listing in a 1925 Vancouver Sun for the Dominion Theater so the official opening date is not 1929.
Upon further research, the Dominion Theater was a prestigious venue actually built in 1907 by J.R. Muir and sat 1000 patrons.

The information for this photo indicates that it was taken in 2009, apparently the signage was replaced.
That’s an older photo, the current sign has been there longer than 2009.
One of the earliest theatres acquired by Famous Players Canadian Corporation in Vancouver. The original auditorium had a ceiling that consisted of glass with backlit lighting above it. Very interesting!!
I remember when this was the Downtown Famous Players.
According to the article below, the Caprice nightclub (in the old Dominion/Downtown/Caprice theatre space) closed in January 2018 and following renovations, was replaced in June 2019 with the space’s current tenant, a bar and restaurant called the Colony:
