The Cine Americano was opened on 18th August 1916. In 1953 it was re-named Cinema Copacabana. This once popular theater in the Copacabana district of Rio de Janeiro, has been completely remodeled and is now a health club.

Cinema Copacabana was open until about 10 years ago. It had cheap matinees and it was one of the first movie theaters that sold pop corn in Brasil, imitating the Anerican movies.
The gym is still going strong. I took a couple of photos that I will post later.
Here are some June 2009 photos. Next door is a familiar name, but the first one I’ve seen in Brazil.

Is that a Walt Disney movie on the marqee in kenRoes 1975 photo?
Yes,they are playing a Disney movie.Could be a new relaese or something years old.
Which movie was it? I only saw the lower letters look like W DISNEY in the middle of the marquee on the bottom line.
The Walt Disney movie title “Aventuras Na Neve” on the marquee translates from Portuguese to English as “Ventures In The Snow”.
Close, Ken. It means “Adventures in the Snow”.
