I really can’t 100% answer that but it appears a lot of places in that general area have Kenmawr tied to their name, schools, churches and the like. No idea what it means though.
Why the name Kenmawr?
Final night of operation was September 28, 1986 with “Reform School Girls”, “Cut and Run”, and “The Vamp”
Now the site of the Stanford Court housing development.
The Kenmawr Drive-In opened in 1950 the same year asa the Dependable Drive-In. The Dependable is now a four screen and still in operation.
Operated by the Hanna Theater Service in the late 1950s.
The Kenmawr Drive-In was a favorite of pop singer Lou Christie, who lived in nearby Glenwillard. He used to mention this one during between-song banter, usually before “Rhapsody In The Rain”.
Opened July 2, 1949. One of many Pittsburgh area drive-ins to close after the 1986 season. Located in Kennedy Township at Coraopolis & Fleming Park Rds. (PA 51). Stanford Courts housing development now occupies the Kenmawr Drive-In site.
