The Regal was the third cinema in Hartlepool to be equipped for CinemaScope and the only one with 4 track mag. stereo sound. The Robe opened on Monday November 29th 1954 and the cinema became the home of Fox CinemaScope films, which continued under Essoldo ownership.

the building is again out of use and since the fire which destroyed the Odeon along the road, this is now the only surviving original cinema building in Hartlepool, with just the modern Vue cinema at the Marina still in use

Now in the process of being transformed into a community hub including a food bank and arts crafts etc. Nice to see it at the centre of the community again.

The stalls floor, although with seats replaced by tables, retains a saucer rake. More photos of the Regal / Essoldo / Carlton, taken in January 2008 here:–
