Additional information finally obtained earlier today:
The feature on the grand opening night was “Do You Love Me”, starring Dick Haymes, Maureen O'Hara and Harry James.
The final night of operation was November 15, 1970 with the films “The People Next Door” and “A Nice Girl Like Me”. The following year, the drive-in was replaced by Burrell Plaza which is partially dormant.

Approx. address for this drive-in was 3150 Leechburg Road.
THE FAMILY DRIVE IN HAD IN 1956 PARKING FOR 400 CARS AND WAS OWNED BY HANNA THEATRE SERVICE.
Sorrell Naft, who had operated this drive-in in its final several seasons, passed away within the past few months.
It was still open in 1970, according to the IMPA of that year. Operator was Associated Theaters.
Just obtained some information from a community library near the area where this drive-in was. Opening date of the Family D-I was May 20, 1948. Located four miles east of New Kensington on Leechburg Rd./former PA 56. I believe the Family closed in the early 70’s (will try to confirm the actual date soon). Today, the drive-in (½ mile off the current PA 56 route) is occupied by abandoned buildings that housed Montgomery Ward and J.C. Penney.
