The 1929 listings only have the Opera House, while 1930 has nothing for Corning, and 1931 only lists the American. Unsure whether that means anything as far as temporary closures. The 1928 listings show both the American and Opera House, as well as an Airdome, which seems awfully late for one to be operating. Really wish the later maps were available.
The building was constructed sometime between 1893 and 1899. The 1914-15 listings show a Scenic theater, along with the Lyric. Not sure where that was, since the last map is from 1907, and the next is 1929, and not available online. Nothing appears on the 1907 map, but that’s pretty early. The Opera House is a possibility.
Opened on November 11, 1911.
Attended a matinée showing of “How to Train Your Dragon 2” and the screen/sound where outstanding. Prices are VERY reasonable. The matinée and children ticket prices are $5 and for adults for evening shows are $7. Purchasing a combo of 2 large drinks and a large popcorn was only $11 at the Corning American Theatre. I usually have to pay closer to $20 for the same thing in a larger city like Omaha, NE. I was highly impressed to say the least.
This newly renovated theatre has 100 hi-back rocker seats. Theatre is handicap accessible. The distance between the seat rows was increased 5 inches over standard to ensure a more comfortable movie experience. Dolby surround sound and a digital projector produce an awesome movie watching experience. Prices for concessions are very reasonable.
