Boxoffice of September 9, 1950, said that John White had opened his new Lake Theatre on August 25 and closed the Jons Theatre.
John White and his father Claude also owned the Nu-Buflo Theater in Buffalo, MO, which they bought in 1946.
Jon’s Theatre opened on December 25, 1941, and the opening feature was NEVER GIVE A SUCKER AN EVEN BREAK with W.C. Fields. The owner was John White. This appears to be the same John White who later operated the Lake Theatre and the Camdenton Drive-In. Until May 23, 1942, Jon’s Theatre competed with the nearby Camden Theater, but then John White purchased the Camden Theater from Shield Wilson, and apparently never reopened that theater. I would also assume that John White closed Jon’s Theater when he opened the Lake Theater.
The 1941 edition of Film Daily Yearbook only lists a Camden Theatre with 250 seats. In the 1943 edition of F.D.Y. the Camden Theatre is still listed with 250 seats and there is also a Jones Theatre with 276 seats. By the time the 1950 edition of F.D.Y. was published, the only theatre listed as operating is Jons Theatre (their spelling) with a seating capacity of 256.
