Palace Theatre

The Palace Theatre was an early movie theatre operating in 1913, as I have photograph of it dated in that year. It was located on Bedford Street, a short distance from the post office.

Any further information would be appreciated.

William Ulrich,
Won’t you post the photo you have of the theatre by means of a link to a photo server? I would be very interested.

The Palace is listed in the 1927 Film Daily Yearbook as having 700 seats and open daily.

My grandfather told me this theater was located on the Northwest corner of Bedford and Rock Sts., which would place it adjacent to the Pocasset-Metacomet Bank Buildings, which were destroyed by fire on February 3, 1928.

The 1918 city directory lists the Palace Theatre at 87 Bedford Street, corner of 3rd Street. That would put it across Bedford Street from the Metacomet Bank, so I don’t think it burned in 1928. It might have gone out of business about that time anyway, possibly even before the fire. Its site is now the location of a loading dock for the Post Office, which looks like it might have been built in the late 1920s or very early 1930s, so even if it survived the fire it must not have operated for long after.
