The Cine Riviera is located in the Vedado district of Havana on Calle 23 at Avenida de los Presidentes between G Street & H Street. It was opened in 1927.
It screens a range of films, usually ‘action movies’, from North America, England, Cuba and Spanish language movies. It hosts film festivals and occasionaly stages concerts.

It was already operating in 1946. The stairs looked so much higher when I was a child! I remember my cousin took me to see a Cantinflas movie there, perhaps “Soy un prófugo”, and I later saw “The Best of Everything” with Hope Lange and Stephen Boyd in 1959. The Carmelo restaurant next door to the east at 505 served a delicious “toasted ice cream” (baked Alaska). The theater is erroneously positioned on the street map in El Cerro, it was on 23 Street between G and H in Vedado.
If you skip forward 40 minutes into this video you can see a series of Havana cinemas in the 1950’s including the Riviera.
