UA Shatin Cinema

The UA 6 was the first multiplex with six screens to be built in Hong Kong. It is situated in Shatin in the New Territories of Hong Kong. It has shown first run Chinese dialect and English language films since its opening on 12th Februaty, 1985. On 22th March, 1989, the theatre was renamed the UA Shatin Cinema.

Four screens were added in the 1990’s. With ten screens, the theatre became the largest cinema in Hong Kong until the opening of AMC Festival Walk Cinema in December 1998.

In November 2006, seven auditoriums were demolished with only three auditoriums equipped with DTS sound system remaining. They closed on 7th June 2018 and the newly built Movie Town opened on the site of the demolished seven screens on June 8, 2018.

The United Artists Sha Tin Cinema was designed by San Francisco architect Daniel T. Uesugi, Uesugi & Associates.
