No matter how unique the original theatre design, after Griffith Theatres got ahold of them the structure seemed to always get remodeled into the same "cookie cutter" look. The Avon Theatre was one of those theatres to the plans of architectural firm Corgan & Moore.

Sometime c. 1939-1940 my uncle, Roy Norman, managed the Avon theater. He also worked simultaneously for the Bison and another – my mom always called them the ABC theaters, and I thought the 3rd one was the Criterion. Avon, Bison and Criterion. Was the Ritz formerly the Criterion or do I have the facts screwy? Does anyone know? They were all within two blocks walking distance of the family home (200 block of N Philadelphia – now a church.)
