Opened in 1925, originally seating around 2000, the Fond du Lac Theatre, built for the Fischer Theatre Company, featured both vaudeville and other live performances in addition to movies in its earlier years. This theater was operated by Wisconsin Amusements in the early sixties.
From the early 1900s, a postcard which has the image of large vertical sign on North Main that is pointing out the direction of the Fond du lac Theatre on what appears to be a cold winter day.
The sign in the postcard view mentioned above is possibly pointing to the Crescent Opera House that was located on the southwest corner of Second and Marr Sts. in the city of Fond du Lac. The opera house later became the Crescent Auto & Machine Company and burned in a 1908 fire. The Fond du Lac Theatre opened later, in November of 1925, at a totally different site about four blocks further north from the location shown in the photo.
From the early 1900s a postcard view of the Fond du Lac Theatre sign visible in the distance and the Retalw Theatre visible in the foreground.
From what I’m reading here, there were six theaters in Fond Du Lac, and NONE are operating now?! Couldn’t save even ONE? Sad….
