What an utter & total shame. Imagine the absolutely incredible movies that were shown there! Imagine watching MOVIETONE news short before during & after WW2 in that theater? WOW!!! Not to mention Korea & Vietnam & the wonderful movies of the 1940’s & 50’s! I could understand if it was for a community health center or school, etc., but for a goddam, soul-less, worthless, moneyhungry mainland heartless corporation which pushes health destroying garbage disguised as food on the Polynesian people is disgusting. I wish they could’ve saved it.

The Haleiwa Theater was built in 1931.
In the late 70’s/early 80’s, they would also feature local rock and punk bands, as my uncle had played there for a “Battle Of The Bands” contest. It would have been the perfect setting with the surfing community out there. The land it was on had been purchased, but there wasn’t enough of a push to preserve the building. While I never went in, I’ve stood outside of it a few times and it had the feel of a school auditorium.
Here is one photo of the Haleiwa that once was. http://www.flickr.com/photos/rin-gen/4652330567/sizes/l/
