Caprice Theatre

Krebs (a suburb of McAlester) has a large population that is of Italian decent. Therefore, Krebs Opera House was built around 1885 especailly to present Italian opera to local residents.

After the nearby Busby Theatre opened the old opera house couldn’t match the new competitor’s superior stage productions, and converted over to movies. With a new name the Caprice Theatre remained a combo vaude/movie house until destroyed by fire in the early 1920s.

Upon closer inspection of the c1918 photo, that poster for “Queen of the Sea” may be an advertisement for the Busby Theatre in neighoring McAlester. Looks like the Palace is actually a cafe.
