Ritz Theatre

This was the second Ritz Theatre to operate in Hickman, KY. It was opened on September 16, 1948 with Dan Dailey in “Give My Regards to Broadway”. It was closed on November 4, 1970 with Robert Mitchum in “The Good Guys and the Bad Guys”.

The building became a wrestling and music venue. In 1975 it became the Craddock Lounge and Nightclub.

This is a 1938 photo. It’s on EBay so it may disappear soon:

The 1938 photo has vanished, but here’s one dated 1940. The Ritz in the photo burned in 1947.

The new, Art Moderne style Ritz, designed by the Clarksville, Tennessee, architectural firm of Speight & Hibbs, opened in 1948 as reported in Boxoffice of October 16 that year. The Ritz was operated by the Ruffin Amusement Company, also operators of the Rex Theatre in Hickman.

The original Ritz Theatre opening ad for November 29, 1934 is posted in photos. It burned down on May 8, 1947 and was replaced by a new Ritz Theatre that launched Sept. 16, 1948 with “Give My Regards to Broadway.” The Ritz closed permanently as a movie house on November 4, 1970 with “The Good Guys and the Bad Guys.” It hosted wrestling and music events for several years before becoming home to the Craddock Lounge and Nightclub in 1975.
