Opened in 1929 and located in the working class suburb of Jesus del Monte on the Calzada 10 de Octubre between Rodriguez Este and Calzada de Luyano.

The architect was Ernesto Lopez Rovirosa and it was possibly originally designed as a live theatre. It has a stepped Art Deco style facade, with a freize featuring chevron & flower motifs.

The Cine Moderno was closed c.2002.

I remember seeing James Cagney and the Bowery Boys movies there as a child. Admission was all of 30¢. The theater was right next door to the 11th Police Station, it is erroneously positioned on the street map at Serrano and Santos Suárez streets.
