The Germania Air-Drome was located on the corner of Greene Avenue and Fairview Avenue in Ridgewood, Queens. The grand opening date is given as May 15, 1915. We believe this theater was operating prior to that date because a mailer for the Germania Air-Drome mentions, "under new management" and "extensive alterations and improvements have been completed in the Air-Drome".

It looks like the Germainia Air-Drome was replaced by a bunch of garages at some point:

Ooops, sorry, I had Woodward on my mind from the Ridgewood Amusement! Here’s the proper corner. I am going to assume that it was on the lower corner, the south corner or Greene and Fairview, as that is a larger apartment building of bricks, which doesn’t match the 3 other corners which are older wooden frame buildings.
That larger apartment building was built later than the other three corners. Woodframe tenemants were outlawed around 1900 or so, so it’s so it’s safe to say that they were there already when the Airdrome was built on the other corner in 1915. The brick building was built some time after the Airdrome closed.

I’m curious why the photo Ken posted has not replaced the street view above. It is the only image in this theater’s photo section. I thought the basic logic for each theater overview page in the database was to default to the street view ONLY if there were no images uploaded.

Ed and Ken, I totally agree with your comments. What happened here also occurred with several other sites where either the google map or recent photos of the site are featured on the main page and you have to enter the photo section to get the really valuable stuff. I hope the site manager will address this.

Seems like a bug in those individual pages… Wonder if there’s anything that these particular theater pages have in common that would cause this disconnect?
