Star Cinema

Built in 1869 as a public hall, known as St. Mary’s Hall, it is located on the corner of St. Mary’s Street and Canongate. The architects were David Cousin and John Lessels.

In 1914 it opened as the Star Cinema, affectionately known as the ‘Starry’. It closed in around 1924. It is currently in use as a training centre.

On 12 December 1974, Historic Scotland designated the Star Cinema a Grade B Listed building.
