I walked by this theater countless times in the early 80s. I remember that it was a small place. I think it had a red marquee, but it’s been a long time.
On 9th March 2008, the Sansom Cinema was given the distinction of being the 20,000th theater to be listed on Cinema Treasures.
That’s impressive. My only question is why the theater is numbered 23,401? 20,000 is the Odeon Sketty. Just wondering if that’s due to entries being added and then deleted.
For years this theater had an ad in the Philadelphia Daily News, in the sports section. WHAT’S UP WITH THAT????
Hello all,
I am doing a large-scale research project on adult theatres and would be very interested to hear from anything who either worked at or attended this theatre during its time showing adult films. If you would like to help me out, you can email me at .
Thanks!
With no marquee and a nondescript façade, it is possible to walk right pass this small gay porn cinema without even taking notice to it. No stadium seating here but cold drinks are available via a soda machine. This place even offers a mood room, whatever that is. Does anyone know when this place opened and how many seats it has? Also, who was the decorator?
Sansom Cinema is now closed, the end of an era.
There is now only one Adult Theater in downtown Philadelphia, The Adonis Theater on Samson Street. I believe the Samson’s Atlantic City cousin, is still open.
