State Theatre

The State Theatre opened March 8, 1929 with Patsy Ruth Miller in “Marriage by Contract”. It was damaged by a fire in 1970 and the theatre was donated to the city. The State Theatre was closed on January 1, 1978 with Lieh Lo in “Five Fingers of Death” & Bruce Lee in “Enter the Dragon”. It was demolished in 2000.

Opened March 8, 1929 for the Berenson Brothers Circuit. Lockett & Chachere were the architects. Simplex projection and Western Electric Sound were the choices for opening (though the latter was delayed). The $125,000 venue had a Reproducer pipe organ for its launch.
