Located in the Brentwood district in the west of Los Angeles. This little Fox West Coast Theatres Corp. house was opened prior to 1935, and operating into at least 1952. It has long since been destroyed.

The Los Angeles Public Library photo database lists the Brentwood’s location at:

11611 Wilshire Blvd.

That puts it where the World Savings Bank building is now, on the northwest corner of Wilshire and Veteran.

Is the 11611 Wilshire the correct address?

11611 Wilshire must be the right address since the Brentwood Twin is at 2524 Wilshire, Santa, Monica.

There is a building on the south side of Wilshire that looks very much like this. It has a verticle sign, and IIRC the sign sais “Bruin.” Next time I’m in that area I’ll double check and post again.

The Bruin was a flower shop, and judging by the age of the signage, it looks like it had been around a while. Definitely the same vintage, though. The Bruin is a little art deco gem; I’d love to see it restored and turned into something!

What a surprise finding the Brentwood Theater on the internet! This was my father’s theater and we used to go there every week to see whatever film was showing. My father also owned a theater in Newhall, but I cannot remember the name of it off the top of my head.

Per the initial comment on this thread, 11611 Wilshire Blvd. puts the Brentwood Theater directly on the corner of Wilshire Blvd. and Federal Ave. The old theater sat about two blocks East of Barrington Ave, per research, and was open as early as 1935, per Box Office Magazine, Vol. 27. The theater was remodeled in 1947 and lost all of its stucco, Spanish Revival exterior. The movie house primarily served as a kids’ theater (after WWII) showing family-themed matinee fare. It appears to have closed by “July 1951” per LA Times listings. As for the “Bruin” flower shop also mentioned above, that was at 12020 Wilshire Blvd., but not close to the Brentwood Theater. The flower shop building stands as of Feb. 2026. There was yet another Bruin shop or satellite office at 11000 Wilshire Blvd. now the site of the Wilshire Federal Building.
