The Aloha Theatre was opened on October 10, 1936 with Richard Dix in “Transatlantic Tunnel!”. It was closed early in 1981. It was gutted internaky in 2020 to be converted into a boutique hotel. Still vacant in 2022.

Need to update: The Aloha opened October 4, 1936 and closed in 1981. The architect was Fred Fujioka with a seating capacity of 675. An effort was started some years ago to restore it to it’s original splendor then apparently abandoned with the forces of nature beginning to take a toll on what remains of the structure. For all of the major films that are shot on this island, aside from the Waimea, there isn’t a decent theatre to be found here.

October 10, 1936 grand opening ad with Richard Dix in “Transatlantic Tunnel” in photos. It closed in 1981 (with its last advertisements in 1980). The Aloha was completely gutted in 2020 and was being redone as a $4 million boutique hotel project in 2023. A termination notice regarding one of the involved LLCs on the project in 2026 gave pause for concern regarding the future of the 12-room future hotel.
