The Cherokee Theater was opened in 1953, housed in a free standing corner brick building with unique inlaid brickwork on the front. The marquee sheltered a recessed entrance and featured a large "C" in its center. "Cherokee" was spelled out in large red individually attached lettering above the marquee. It had closed by 1986.
By 2022 it was operating as a craft store named The Rustic Ewe.

A 1986 view of the Cherokee Theater in Sweetwater.
Actually, pretty sure it’s 603 N. Main St., and is now an Edward Jones office. http://mcminn.media.clients.ellingtoncms.com/img/marketplace/businesses/images/2009/01/07/Edward_Jones_t670.JPG?b3f6a5d7692ccc373d56e40cf708e3fa67d9af9d
A tourist brochure (PDF here) says that the Cherokee Theatre was built in 1953. It replaced an earlier house called the Gay Theatre, which had opened in 1929 at another location.
The brochure doesn’t mention it, but as late as 1927, Sweetwater had a movie house called the Moneta Theatre, which dated back to the 1910s.
Address is both 603 and 605.
