The Amuzu Theater was opened in 1912. In later years it was the most run down theater in Des Moines. Their fare was always old westerns and old cartoons. It was always joked that there were big rats in it. It was closed in 1952.

In a Sunday May 5th, 1935 Des Moines Resister ad, the AMUZU theater was running “THE WESTERNER” STARING Tim McCoy. No mention of price in this ad.
I also correct the address to 515 E. Locust.
Built in 1912, the Amuzu lasted until the end of 1952 likely doing two 20 year leases. On April 6, 1930, the theater got Photophone sound equipment to enter the talking picture era.
