Originally built as Elvins Coach Works, it became a cinema from 1914 and was named the Cinema. Later converted into a swimming pool, by 1937 it was operating as a cinema again, known as the Swimming Pool Cinema with 385 seats.
The Swimming Pool Cinema closed in 1955 and the building became the Memorial Hall, offering a programme of amateur stage productions. Films returned from 1973 to 1975 and it then returned to live theatre use. Seating is now provided for 240 in the stalls and 126 in the balcony.
