The Strand Theatre was built in downtown Muskegon Heights in 1923. It was not just a theatre but an entire mixed-use building including retail and apartments.
It was bought by the City of Muskegon Heights in 2001 in the hopes they would be able to restore the empty building to its original mixed-use set up.
As of 2008 the building is still empty, but the city recently invested money in fixing the leaking roof to keep the building from further deterioration.

I lived in an apartment on the second floor of the store block opposite this building around 1990. I once looked into the the theater through the entrance at the right; the theater was being used then at as warehouse space by a furniture store. At that time, the seats were still in place as was the screen.

The Strand was one of several Muskegon area theaters designed for Paul Schlossman by Detroit theater architect C. Howard Crane.
Google Street View of July 2024 shows this theatre still surrounded by construction fencing and part of the cornice having fallen off. No changes since 2017.
