Built in 1895 on the site of an earlier wood frame opera house that burned down, Lake Benton’s Opera House was later known as the Majestic Theatre and still later as the Valley Theatre after it converted into a movie house. In addition to movies, live events and community gatherings continued to take place at the theatre.
By 1970, the theatre had closed and was scheduled for demolition, but was rescued and restoration began, and continues to the present day. In 1977, the Lake Benton Opera House, as it is known today, was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The Opera House is now host to live theatrical stage presentations.
