Paramount Theatre N. Wewoka Avenue, Wewoka, OK...1940's

Talk about a real sparkler of a cinema. Paramount placed one of their trademark razzle dazzle marquees over a completely unadorned brick facade, and somehow it worked. The 600-seat Paramount Theatre was opened on October 30, 1930 with Buddy Rogers in “Follow Through”.

It is suspected that it was profits from these small-town theatres that kept big city palaces in business. The Paramount Theatre was closed in 1948.

That arched marquee left no dought that this was a Paramount Publix house. Vintage photos of this theatre can be seen by typing in word “Paramount”;

This theatre had a qausi old west look. Wonder if it had any interior decoration?
Elaborate movie palaces are certainly a lot of fun to explore, but on hind site, if picture and sound quality were good, did it make much difference if sometimes the theatre itself was drab?

Looking quite dowdy without the colorful marquee, this is a modern day view of the former Paramount Theatre. It was located a few doors away from the State Theatre, and across the street from the Key Theatre.

Street View of June 2023 shows a large vacant lot where this theater once stood. Status should be “Demolished”
