A 1961 aerial shows the drive-in intact and apparently operational. By 1965, it had been demolished with only the projection booth intact. Given the number of vehicles on the property at the time, it appears to be an auto salvage yard.
By 1982, the property was empty save for the remains of the projection booth. By 1998, it was becoming overgrown with trees and no sign of the projection booth.
The “Bayouland” advertised in the 1955 Donaldsonville High School yearbook. Please add the no-space, single-word alternative spelling to Previous Names.
Boxoffice, Nov. 13, 1961: “Leroy LeBlanc has taken over the management-operations of the Bayouland Drive-In, Barton (Donaldsville) La.”
Motion Picture Herald, Jan. 5, 1952: “Lewis Cox, co-owner of Bayou Land drive-in, Barton, near Donaldsonville, La., was to close it January 3, and remain closed during January for renovations and alterations.”
There is no evidence of any drive-in located in Barton. However, there was a drive-in located near Donaldsonville which is near Barton. The address is 2290 Louisiana 1, Donaldsonville, LA 70346.
Today, the entire property is overgrown and no trace of the drive-in remains. http://tinyurl.com/z67nbxk
