The finding aid for the Liebenberg & Kaplan papers at the Univeristy of Minnesota lists the Ashland Theatre as one of their projects.
The Ashland Theater was located along Front Street (now known as Lakeshore Drive). The theater once stood near the area where the bandshell is located.
At the time, The Ashland Theater was across the street from the origional location of the “first” Hotel Chequamegon. The “first” Hotel Chequamegon was torn down, and the Courthouse was built on that location. Before the Courthouse was built, there were two other theaters on that block (the Olympic and Fountain Theaters).
