Opened in 2003, and located at 210 East Hargett Street in Downtown Raleigh, The IMAX Theatre at Exploris was the second IMAX Theatre in North Carolina(the first was in Charlotte)and the first ever IMAX Theatre in the Greater Triangle show first run feature films that were presented in the IMAX format along with other films of interest including nature and documentaries features of interest.
The IMAX Theatre at Exploris was the first movie theatre to be located in Downtown Raleigh since it opened its doors to the public in 2003. The first movie house Downtown since the closing of the Ambassador Theatre in the late 1970’s.

This theatre is showing in the IMAX format the re-released of “The Dark Knight” at IMAX Exploris.
It also shows a lot of nature documentaries including IMAX format of films presented. Some of them are very National Geographic like.
The first movie theatre to be erected in Downtown Raleigh since the closing of the Ambassador Theatre in the late 1970’s. The IMAX Theatre at Marbles Kids Museum is a masterpiece of cinema.
Function of the IMAX Theatre at Marbles Kids Museum is basically showings of first-run features presented in the IMAX format as well as documentaries and specials of important interest.

The IMAX Theatre at Marbles Kids Museum is closed to the public for extensive renovations including new projection and update equipment.
It closed its doors on January 8, 2011,and will reopen in mid-February.

Switched from 70mm 12 perf IMAX film projection to IMAX digital projection during their January 2011 renovation. Major bummer.
