The Waterfront Cinema was opened in August 1996. Initially only two screens were open as there were problems with soundproofing. The other two screens opened in October 1996. It was built and owned by the local Council, and is operated on a 20-years lease by the independent West Coast Cinemas company.
Seating capacities in the screens are: 258, 148, 106 and 84.
