The Elite Theater was opened by H.S. Cole on October 6, 1939 with Lynne Overman in “Death of a Champion”. It was located on the west side of the town square. It was damaged by fire on April 13, 1952, the final film was Johnny Sheffield in “Elephant Stampede”. It was remodeled and reopened in December 1953. It was closed in 1955 and became a church. It was demolished in 2012.

An early 1940s image of the Elite Theater in Bonham.
No…this is not the American.
Opened at 117 east Fifth with Death of a Champion and closed April 13, 1952 with Elephant Stampede . Demolished 60 years later
Sounds like the Elite reopened for a while.
Billboard, Jan. 2, 1954: “Col. H. A. Cole has closed his drive-in for the season at Bonham, Tex., but has reopened the Elie (sic?) after a remodeling program.”
The relaunch of the Elite Theatre in December 1953 was actually short-lived, closing as a movie house in 1955. The Elite Theatre became a church a short time later.
