The Carroll Theater in the North Square, built by Patrick H. Carroll in 1913, closed in 1959.

I was in Waterbury on Monday and decided to visit every listed Waterbury movie theater, living or deceased. I looked for it and it’s obviously demolished and there are either houses on it or just vacant land. Where North Main starts the uphill on the left is where it could have been, near a recreation field.

Waterbury disk jockey “Wildman Steve” Gallon hosted live shows featuring prominent black recording artists at the Carroll in the late 1950s. His Sportsmen’s Club bar/nightclub was at 196 North Main St.

This was known as “Where The Big Pictures Play On The Square”. When it closed it was owned by Roger Mahan.

From Boxoffice magazine, April 1962:

WATERBURY, CONN.-The subsequent-run Carroll recently played a stage show, featuring the Isley Brothers, at $2 top ticket.

Does anyone remember M&M Restaurant next to Carrol Theater in the 60s? Any photos?
