A small cinema located in Treforest, a small town south of Pontypridd, Glamorgan. The New Cecil Cinema was opened in 1913. By 1934 it had been equipped with a British Acoustic(BA) sound system which was later replaced by two Kalee 12 projectors with a RCA sound system.
The New Cecil Cinema was still operating in 1966, but went over to part time bingo and films from 1975 until it closed in 1980. In 1981 it became a a snooker club, named Mr. Snooker’s Club, for many years before converting into an antique store known as Old Cecil by August 2018.
Since February 2001 it has been a Grade II Listed building.

The photo shows that it went over to bingo.
Geograph has further information, picture reference ST0889. Opened pre-1914, it closed as a cinema in 1980, with part-time bingo running 1975-80 as a cine-bingo operation. Became a snooker club from 1981 onwards. It is Grade II listed a rare surviving pre1914 cinema.
