Hi all, I am new to the site and looking for help. I am a researcher on a book dealing with cinema in British Columbia. I would love to include reminiscences about specific theatres, photos, or any information about how film and theatres in general affected your life and/or community. This would include rented films, documentaries from libraries, as well as local theatres or film study groups. Any information you would like to share would be most welcome.

Thanks for sharing your love of movies!
Here is an October 2009 article about ongoing renovation at the Royal:

According to this link, the Royal first opened in 1927 as the Rialto Theatre. It closed following a fire in May 1944, then it was reopened in January 1945 as the Odeon under Odeon ownership. It gained its present name of the Royal in 1977 under then-owner Landmark Cinemas.

The Royal has not been part of Landmark since 1990. It was bought by M. Radulovich in 1990, then taken over in 2001 by the owners of Coquitlam’s Pinetree 6 Cinemas (the same group that bought the Pinetree 6 from Cineplex Odeon in 1998), and since 2009 has been locally owned by Jason and Lisa Milne (see link below):
