It was the first cinema to open in Blackwood sometime around 1912. The Palace Cinema building was pointed out to me by a fellow projectionist when I was doing relief work at Blackwood in the early 1960’s.
The later opening of newer and more modern halls in the town led to the Palace Cinema being closed some time around 1938. After closure the building became a warehouse for Baber’s furniture business. It was in this guise that I saw the hall and could clearly see it had been either a theatre or a cinema.
Since 9th November 1999, the building has been in use as a pub in the J.D. Wetherspoon chain, named The Sirhowy.
