Rio Cinema

Located in the Slave Island district of Colombo, the Rio Cinema showed 70mm Todd-AO films, judging by a large sign on the front of the building. It was opened in February 1965 with “South Pacific”. It was designed by the owner of the building Ratnarajah Navaratnam who had also designed his Navah Cinema. Seating was provided in orchestra and balcony levels. The Rio Cinema ended its cinematic days screening adult porn movies. The building still stands in 2015.
