The Star Theatre opened on April 8, 1949 with Jeanette MacDonald in “The Sun Comes Up”. It was recently remodeled and upgraded to Dolby Surround Sound. Original seats were replaced with mid-1990’s. Currently there are 311 seats. We have a stage which we use for special events. We have a concert once a month. We show a classic movie once a month. We are currently open Friday through Monday. We show the latest movies. At times we will open a movie on opening day.

What’s with you and the marquees? Can’t we see the rest of the theater? Gee whiz.

The history section of the Star Cinema’s official web site says that the theater was designed by Salem architect Lyle P. Bartholomew.

Any information on a Central Drive-In near Stayton or Sublimity? It may have been open around 1950-55.

The Star is a gem! Beautiful little showcase with a great staff! The auditorium retains the charm that it had in it’s opening in 1949.
