Plaza Theatre

The Plaza Theatre was located on Walnut Street at Missouri Street. Also mentioned is that it was within walking distance from the large Saenger Theatre but I could find no further info on the Saenger (it could have been the 750 seat, Paramount Theatre at 505-507 Cherry Street). The Plaza Theater was opened on October 8, 1938. It was closed in late-1961. Information from the Arkansas Historical Society magazine.

Chuck, when you say Arkansas Historical Society Magazine, are you referring to the Arkansas Historical Association Quarterly? If so, do you recall which one you located this in?

The “Theaters Under Construction” column of the September 9, 1938, issue of The Film Daily said that the Plaza Theatre in Helena was expected to be completed on October 1. Builder George B. Miller was also to be the operator of the house. The architect of the 450-seat project was E. T. Walker.

Opened on October 8, 1938, first managed by George Miller. Closed in late-1961.
