Right after its closure, its print of “Dirty Dancing” would move to the UA Westwood Cinemas nearby where it had an extensive indoor showing the following month.
Closed on September 3, 1987 with “Dirty Dancing” and “Summer School”.
A closer address is 2565 W Michigan Ave, Jackson, MI.
Today, the property is home to Jackson Self Storage. There are still faint parch marks of the outline and ramps on the north side of the property.

From the Feb. 12, 1964 Motion Picture Exhibitor: “In Jackson, Mich., Jack and Jay Phillips, who have operated the Bel-Air Drive-In for the past decade, have sold it to veteran exhibitor Elton L. Samuels. Presently closed, it will reopen March 27. Samuels, who also owns the Jackson Drive-In, will reopen it March 13. About a year ago, Samuels disposed of the Miracle Mile outdoorer in Pontiac, and the Waterford fresh airer in Waterford to Redstone of Boston. Through Clark Theatre Service of Detroit, which handles Samuels’ buying and booking, notice has been served on distributors that the Bel-Air is in contention for first-run product.”
Today, Mlive.com posted that the old Bel-Air site was being redeveloped for storage units. (sigh!)
“The Bel-Air Drive-In opened April 29, 1955, and lasted for 30 years. Admission was 50 cents for adults and free for children younger than 12. Ladies received a free gift and kids got free candy on opening day. …Both the Bel-Air and the eastside drive-in, called the Jackson Drive-In, closed after the 1987 season and were demolished.”
